TMC's Scholarship & Grant Programs

As Scholarship Chair for the Texas Music Coalition (TMC), Nikki is currently accepting applications for TMC's two scholarship and grant programs:

The Fred Weiss Memorial Music Grant for Professional Development honors the memory of Fred Weiss, one of the founders of TMC. A devoted teacher and caring mentor, he provided real-world experience, guidance, and a plethora of resources to assist in furthering professional growth in the music industry along with the mantra of ‘patience and persistence!’

To keep that principle alive, TMC members are invited to share their talents, skills, and career goals for the opportunity to receive a one time award of $250 to help you develop your music career, along with a complimentary one-year membership in TMC.

The Jack Skiles Music Scholarship continues the legacy of Jack Skiles, a noted musician and member of TMC, who fostered the growth of local community music, and is open to all South Texas residents currently enrolled in music classes on a high school (including home school), technical college, junior college, or university level, such as:
  • Music composition
  • Music education
  • Music/sound engineering
  • Music journalism
  • Music management
  • Music performance (vocal or instrumental)
  • Music production
  • Music theory
  • Music therapy
  • Entertainment law
This year, the scholarship will give the winning student a Grand Prize of $500 to further their studies; the second-place student will receive $250 toward their studies. Both students, and one or more runners-up, will also receive a complimentary one-year membership in TMC. (Last year's winner, Marcus Tedesco, is pictured above with Nikki.)

The deadline to apply for either the Fred Weiss Grant or the Jack Skiles Scholarship is Friday, June 11, 2010.
